.KEY MESSAGES...

- Well above normal temperatures and breezy conditions will
  continue this weekend through much of next week. Southwest
  and south central North Dakota could have multiple days of
  highs in the 50s.

- Periodic low to medium chances (20 to 40 percent) for light
  precipitation Monday through the middle of next week.

Issued at 1156 PM CST Fri Feb 21 2025

No significant changes are needed for this update. Some minor
adjustments were made to the patchy fog forecast late tonight
through mid Saturday morning based on latest rapid-refresh
guidance. Current conditions and trends for other weather
elements were also blended into the forecast. A few low-lying
areas across central North Dakota have already seen
temperatures drop below their forecast lows for tonight.

For this update, just adjusted sky cover through Saturday
morning using some of the latest guidance. Otherwise, some of
the CAMs continue to suggest the potential for some patchy fog
late tonight through Saturday morning in and around portions of
Lake Sakakawea and the Missouri River Valley.

Expect a quiet and mild evening across western and central North
Dakota. No major changes were needed for this update. Just
blended in the latest observations to the going forecast.

.DISCUSSION...

A warm front continues to push across Western North Dakota
bringing forth warmer temperatures. The cold Arctic airmass
associated with the strong surface high pressure has moved
southeastward into the Southern US. Westerly winds have mixed
warmer air aloft down to the surface aiding temperatures across
much of the state. Temperatures currently sit in the lower 20s
to mid 30s in the southwest. Overnight low temperatures are
forecast to drop down into the teens across the state tonight
which is warmer than yesterday`s high temperatures.

Upper level ridging over Western CONUS will continue to keep the
persistent warmer weather across the Northern Plains this
weekend into much of next week. Temperatures will continue their
trend upward Saturday as temperatures are forecast to rise into
the lower 30s north to the lower 40s south. By Sunday high
temperatures could reach the upper 30s north to lowers 50s
south. Saturday could be a little breezy and Sunday is forecast
to have windy conditions which will contribute to warmer
weather. Monday a clipper system is forecast to move through the
state bringing in a 20-40 percent chance of rain. In addition,
this system could bring windy conditions in the southwest. Above
normal temperatures will continue into next week, however the
northeastern half of state could see more seasonable conditions.
Northwesterly flow remains active through next week leading to
a chance for multiple clipper systems bringing in chances for
precipitation.

VFR conditions are expected through the period. Some patchy fog
may be possible late tonight but confidence is not high enough
to add the potential to any site specific TAF. Winds will mainly
be out of the west and light.
